Gurudwara: A Sikh worship place
Back in 2019, I got a chance to visit Gurudwara located in muscat, Oman along with a few of my friends. Religious places have always intrigued me. I have always been curious to know and explore more about it. looking beyond the horizon has always been an integral part. Every religion has its customs and beliefs. We are bound to respect and embrace them. Sikhism has always fascinated me as I find them one of the most humble and kindest communities. Gurudwara is a worship place of the Sikh community, I was lucky enough to sit through the whole rituals of their prayers. We worship God in one way or another no matter what religion. what fascinated me was the concept of “langar” at Gurudwara, food for everyone no matter what you do or where you are from. it is a community kitchen of Gurudwara that serves free food for everyone. there are volunteers at Gurudwara who volunteer to help out in the kitchen. We had daal roti at the langar in Gurudwara . their selfless devotion to serving humanity intrigues me. along with that it also is a safe place for people who have nowhere to go in other words they help out the people who come across the gurudwara to stay for the night. Kirtan or Bajan is also part of their practices where they sing The verses of the Guru Granth Sahib written in poetic verse. We came across a guru sahib who greeted us warmly with a common Sikh greeting “Sat Sri Akal”. We sat through the whole ritual of the prayers at the end of the prayers they distribute a “Halwa” or sweet that symbolizes blessings. After the rituals, we processed towards the langar where they distribute free food. Every worship place has its essence and values, we learn to respect them as we explore and learn about them. Through these experiences, we adapt to the idea of pluralism and diversity in our life.
